WHY KIDS LOVE WRESTLING
* It makes you tough! There are few youth sports that are physical as wrestling. While some kids are naturally aggressive and physical, others quickly develop these traits once they start competing.
* You get all the glory! When you win, your hand is raised as the victor. There are no teammates to rely on---it's all about what you do. Along these lines, you don't have to hope somebody passes you the ball or that the coach will give you more playing time. When you wrestle, you are 100% involved the entire time.
* You are on a team. Although wrestling is usually considered an individual sport, it is also a team sport. Workout partners in practice work together to help each other improve, and teams compete together in meets that feature both individual and team scores. So as a team and individual sport, you get the best of both worlds!
* It's super fun! If you like physical contact, you'll love wrestling. But it's more than that. Wrestlers have a great time playing games on the mats that develop athleticism, conditioning, and more. And at Eastern Loudoun, our coaches are committed to ensure that kids have a fun time. As wrestlers get older and more serious, it's perhaps the most demanding sport around. But when young kids start out, the number one goal is to have a positive experience and have fun.
WHY ADULTS LOVE YOUTH WRESTLING
* Everyone knows about the work ethic and discipline needed to become a great wrestler. More than any other sport, wrestling teaches life lessons that will benefit a child their entire life. Of course, when young kids first start out, we want to ensure they are loving it and not taking it too serious. But as they get older and more serious, the impact of wrestling on the remainder of their lives will be enormous.
* One of the life lessons learned even at a young age is accountability. Unlike many youth sports, there's nobody to blame when you lose a wrestling match. Accountability and humility go hand in hand in this great sport.
* Wrestling is an ideal foundational sport that helps kids become better athletes and excel in other sports. Wrestling improves strength, physical conditioning, flexibility and balance, overall athleticism, mental toughness, and more. Of course, it's a great way to learn self-defense, too.
* Wrestling provides tremendous exercise and physical fitness for young athletes. No other sport comes close.
* Wrestling is a high school varsity sport, and athletes can obtain scholarships to college to wrestle. The D1 NCAA Championships are one of the most popular college sports events every year. One can also compete in events around the world at a young age and eventually represent Team USA in international competitions, including the Olympics.
* Last but not least, wrestling is incredibly exciting. You will not be bored watching wrestling---in fact, there is no other youth sports experience like it! Trust us on this one :-)
